| I was a runner. That is, I was a runner until the wheels
went flat. Now I have to be content with bike, hike or swim.
I guess shuffleboard is next.
I am a retired special education administrator. I have a masters
degree in therapeutic physical education and rehabilitation.
I am also a musician, handyman, golfer, sailor and, most important
of all, a 'Pop-Pop'. I am also a SERTOMAN.
People who can no longer do are said to be ready to move into
administration. That may explain why I became a race director.
I have directed the SERTOMA 5K for the past four years because,
I was the only one in the organization who knew that a 5K was
not a salary, an exotic drink or a rock group.
SERTOMA is a volunteer service organization that raises funds
to provide for a variety of community needs. We have participated
in the Adopt-a Highway Program, helped to build a community
playground (Kid's Castle), provided holiday gifts for needy
families, and contributed to the homeless and supported employment
projects and the Cottage Street Sports Club. The major focus
of the organization; however, is to help hearing impaired with
service, devices, or grants for education or therapeutic recreation.
Obviously, it is costly to help people even in a totally volunteer
organization. The SERTOMA 5K is our major fund raising event
and one that we could not pull off without the support of the
Bucks 5K Series.
And why am I here?
SERTOMA is a group of good people, doing good things for the
community and having a good time doing it together. The BUCKS
5K SERIES is a group of good people providing support the community
with an program that promotes health, fitness and fun for runners
of all levels. I am involved because I believe in the respective
missions of both organizations.
I hope you do also. Thanks for your support and consider joining
SERTOMA.
